Afternoon Tea at The Brasserie of Light

Afternoon Tea at The Brasserie of Light

The Brasserie of Light is a gorgeous restaurant in the heart of Oxford Circus (Selfridges to be precise). It features a British & international menu with a very similar menu style as The Ivy, which is no surprise as it is owned by Caprice Holdings (who own The Ivy, Sexy Fish, J Sheekey, Harrys Dolce Vita and 34 Mayfair… to name a few!)

The decor is second to none, the art deco styling is complimented perfectly by the large windows which allows for the most wonderful lighting. It is home to the incredible 24ft  Swarovski crystal pegasus by Damien Hirst which is the showstopper in the restaurant and can be seen from outside also. The bathrooms are also pretty amazing and are definitely worth a visit!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We stopped by for the Pegasus Afternoon Tea which is £35 pp with a minimum of two people which includes a choice of tea, coffees or infusions and an array of both sweet and savoury options.

The savoury options are: smoked salmon on rye bread, lobster, mango and avocado cocktail, feta, fennel and red pepper puffs and shredded asian vegetable rice paper rolls. The sweet options are: chocolate bubble shot, mini pegasus pie, golden apple and passionfruit butterfly meringue.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The food included with the tea was fine, nothing to write home about (I was hoping for some scones and more sandwiches). The food selection felt somewhat  incoherent, with that being said perhaps that is the point, it is meant to be a more unique take on the standard afternoon tea as there  is a separate option on the afternoon tea menu for cream tea (£8.75)

For £35 per person I feel that for the food, tea and theatrics it is well priced. The Brasserie of Light itself is beautiful and the tea encapsulates the theme of the brasserie perfectly. The service was great with the staff being both attentive and friendly. I would most definitely recommend visiting with the caveat that the afternoon tea is excellent for instagram purposes as opposed to actual taste. I would recommend instead ordering one of their desserts which are incredible in terms of look and taste.
